Amber jewellery can look so good all year round! It’s so easy too! All of our pieces are beautifully handcrafted to be passed down through generations with just a little love and care from its owners. Storing correctly, using polishing cloths and keeping away from harsh chemicals are just some of the things we can do to ensure longevity, shine and glow. We’ve put together a longer more precise list of ways to guarantee that your Amber jewellery looks so good!
Nine Tips to Care for Amber
- Do not wear your Amber jewellery when sunbathing or when exposed to intense sunlight. The fiery gem can be sensitive to heat and therefore, it is best to remove Amber on the beach or around the pool.
- Showering can affect the appearance of Amber due to the extreme humidity or heat. We advise to remove before heading into the sauna also.
- Always store in a fabric lined jewellery box to avoid damage or touching other metals or stones. Our collection of stylish storage boxes and cases ensure that your Amber jewellery always has a place.
- It may not look it but Amber is quite soft and if dropped could crack or break. Therefore, take care of your jewellery to avoid any scratches or bumps.
- Keep your jewellery away from any chemicals such as hairspray or perfumes. Apply these before wearing your jewellery to limit the amount that touches your designs as they could leave a white coating that is difficult to remove or dull the polish and fiery tone.
- The chemicals used to clean are also pretty harmful. Therefore, when working on the kitchen or bathroom take all of your Amber jewellery off.
- To ensure that your favourite jewellery designs remain shiny all year round, our polishing cloths will remove any tarnish.
- Do not wear when swimming as chlorine is another chemical that can damage your jewellery.
- Accidents happen so if any unwanted chemicals come in contact with your Amber jewellery make sure that you immediately wash off.
Cleaning Raw Amber Jewellery
- With a damp, clean and soft cloth, lightly clean the piece of Amber to remove any oil or debris. Make sure the water that you use to wet the cloth is warm rather than hot.
- Don’t forget to dry the Amber straight away with a new cloth.
- For older Amber pieces using a tiny drop of olive oil to polish it will bring back its beautiful shine. Again, remember to clean with a dry cloth.
Cleaning Sterling Silver Amber Jewellery
- The best way to clean the sterling silver Amber jewellery is to use one of our anti tarnish polishing cloths to maintain its brightness. Over time, silver reacts to oxygen creating dark oxidisation that is easily removed.
- We advise to rub with gentle pressure numerous times. You will notice that dark marks appear on the cloth, which is the tarnish.
- To clean the Amber part of the jewellery follow our raw Amber jewellery advice above.
